For them that ever went to boarding school and especially in high school..those are the days that i remenice with alot of nostalgia. I was at a school if you tried to hepa you had better have better plan than that of Italian Job because you had to pass atleast two barracks before you fika the main road and then you had better have a gateaway car becuase those days the matatus were never available after 6pm and they started working at 7am.
Recently I met with few of my gals from high school and one thing that stood out is that we had fun in our own individual ways and yes if there was a way we could turn back the hands of time and go back to school, minus the books, I will go back. I for one was a Kafiri in school. But that did not stop my house mates from electing me to become the house captain, the principle rejected their selection but instead my cube mate became the the house captain and i became the school hockey captain.Let not my innocence fool ,I got some mad favours. I showered with hot water a preserve for them that were on medical and the school prefects.
We had the panya holes and i was able to go through them since I was size 8 then…now i am 2 sizes bigger. I was a an expert in hataing morning preps and whoever said that siku za mwizi ni 40 was right. Tulikamatwa siku moja and we were beaten not less than 4 vibokos on our bumbums and till date I wonder where the principal got the strenght to chapa 75 gals.
And the outings…walalala kuna vile there was a “high” when you got a chance to go for outings and meet your foes and friends and of course the boys. I just met one of them in the recent 7s.
The order of the day is when you got a letter and if you were lucky and got more than three well you were the envy of the class that day making you feel like you are on cloud 69.
There was nothing boring like have double maths in the afternoon and yes I did have them and I never nyitad any lessons that term and worse there was a particular term when we had double biology and fasihi and I lalad yote and still failed.
Teachers……….they were the people who gave us part of the entertainment. Some we loved and others we hated. One guy (R.I.P) my physics teacher used to shrubbed his name and I got to jua his real name during my last year of high school. And worse the chemistry teacher was a walking book, he never came with a book to class and a major shrubometer who totally confused me in his class becuase he wud say “sheck and sheck your cholution ” yaani “Shake and check your solution”.
I sound as if I hated classes but you got it wrong. There was nothing I loved more like Art/Design and Music and hence they are part and parcel of my career today. Thanks to Ms. Kagwa and Mr. M.
Have you ever wondered why a school will never miss teachers who are
Washamba
Stylish
Shrubbist
No sense of style
Wicked
rude
Nicer than nice
Weirdos.
If you never had any teachers that represented that list above then you are from another world and worse if you were not in boarding school then you missed a whole lot of things.
One thing that ironically stands out is that I am gratefull to my principal Ms. Zilpa Omondi aka “Mkuu”. Her principals and wise sayings still ring on my mind. Mkuu if you are reading this blog thanks na barikiwa sana.
