As a child I was one very curious cat. I would try kila kitu that caught my eye. And just thinking about it, its funny howI am still alive. Back in my day we used to play cha mama and cha baba. we would get mkebe’s from the bin, kwanza for bluebandand we made sure that the blueband was still there kidogo but not dirty (so dumb we were, thank God we had no idea about germs then)anyhu, we stole mboga’s, salt, vibiriti’s and viazi. We even made partions for a house i.e the bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and thesitting room. Anyway we actually got around to cook food and worse we ate, we would abandon that get to another game and it went on. Of course we had alot of competitions among us and especially if one had a car and the other would not have, ama ifone had a telly and the other did not have and the best part if you one who dressed well and held the best party, you werethe Otero for the estate, and of course in every esto hakukosi bully and where I was there was no exception and whenever I see themI wonder why I was so afraid of them. And there was the handsome one that every girl wanted and that beauty the boys wanted.
Anyway back to my curiousity. It got me into trouble but no one knew that I did it.
It was a sunday afternoon, I was in class one and my aunt and uncle were around. I was so bored and there was no one to playwith. So I saw some matches in the kitchen and stole them. I went to the guest room. And started playing with the matches in theguest room. I got bored lighting the matches and watching it burn. So I decided to light the mattress and at the same time naturecalled. I forgot all about the lighted mattress. I spent ample time in the toilet aka ECR (Executive Chambers Resereved ) and while still doing my thing I had commotion and I wondered what was going on. I decided to finish my biz and at the sametime my maama calling me frantically. When I emerged from the ECR, My dad scooped me and took me outside. The fire brigadehad already arrived (those days they were fast), kumbe the room was in flames, no one suspected it was me. I have never beenso afraid in my life.
Man those were the days.
