I have ever had a valentine’s nightmare when I was in high school.

I was in form three and then I was the school hockey captain. Now there was this ka-boy from njoro boys whose name has eludedme. I cannot remember how we met, its all blurry. Anyhu, it was one of those hot days and Naks once its hot, you cannot stop the sun from burning. Clearly love was in the air that day. But this dude once their truck pulled in, he was hot on my heels.I was not able to shake him and I realized that I could not do this alone so during lunch break I announced to my girls onmy predicament. They vowed to protect me that day and wherever I went there were there for me. But the best part was that thedude saw that he could not get through me and the next thing that he did that still makes me laugh to this day and would have made Wangari maathi proudis that the dude actully cried – against a tree – . He was the talk of my hockey team and every vals I cannot help but drink one on him for making a very big fool of himself.

Anyway my second valentines incident whuch was quite funny to me happened in 2001. I was still new at my place of work and anyway it was valentines day andmy good friend Pete (R.I.P) called me up to find put if I was free which I was. He picked me up and we went to this place that was full of other Quins players, it was one of my best vals ever that I had that had no mushy stuff going on, one guy actually threw his phone through the window of a busthinking its a matchbox.

Sadly, I can no longer celebrate valentines. Instead of wearing red, pink or blue, I am in all black or all white. That is another story for another day.
